| The stone sarcophagus resting in the chapterhouse connected to the Jerónimos cloister belongs to 19th century Portuguese historian Alexandre Herculano, who died in 1877 after many controversial writings of Portuguese history and attacks against the church, he was buried here by public subscription. |
