Place de Brouckère/De Brouckèreplein, with the Hotel Continental (centre of picture), a block west of the Royal Theatre of the Mint. It was created following the covering of the river Senne in the 1860s, and named in honour of Charles de Brouckère, who held various ministerial posts of the newly-declared Belgium in the 1830s and eventually became city mayor between 1848-60.
