| On the north-western corner of Plaza de Armas is the neo-classical Metropolitan Cathedral of Santiago, the seat of the Archbishop of Santiago de Chile. Construction lasted between 1748 and 1800; previous cathedrals in the archdiocese had been destroyed by earthquakes. |
