| Although Petra eventually became a Roman city, this theatre was Nabataean and pre-dated them, hewn directly from the rock in one piece; carving it sliced through many existing caves and tombs. It held 3000 people, before the Romans enlarged it to 8500, after arriving in 106AD. |
