Looking south down Jerash's hippodrome, built between the 1st-3rd centuries AD, next to the Arch of Hadrian (far-left of picture). The ancient sports-field, 244m by 50m, could sit up to 15,000 people and hosted mainly athletics competitions and chariot racing.
