The Sobieski Room is dominated by the great oil painting, completed in 1883 by Polish painter Jan Matejko (1838-93), of Sobieski pod Wiedniem, representing the victory of the Polish king John III Sobieski against the Ottomans at the Battle of Vienna in 1683.
