| Looking back across the huge courtyard to the entrance of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. The colossal project started construction in 1994 and was eventually inaugurated in December 2007. It is named in honour of the late president of the UAE, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan al-Nahyan, who championed the project; when he died in 2004, he was buried in this courtyard. |
