| Standing on Algeria Square is the former Tripoli Cathedral, built by the Italians in 1928. It closed down after Qaddafi's September 1969 revolution, but didn't reopen until 2003 after its conversion to a mosque (named for the president of Egypt, who died in 1970) was complete. |
