| Deira district's cargo docks on its northern bank, crammed with Arabic dhows, has historically served Dubai as an international port throughout the Gulf region, some from as far away as India or East Africa. While still is a busy cargo exchange, the importance of the creek as a port has diminished with the development of the Jebel Ali Port on the Persian Gulf coast. |
