| At Bulgaria Square's northern end stood the controversial "1300 years of Bulgaria" monument, hurriedly built with cheap materials by the Communists in 1981 to celebrate the founding of the First Bulgarian Empire in 681. Due to its immediate (and ironic) decay, it was torn down in 2018. |
