| Across the way from the Ólavskirkjan stands the ruins of the gothic St Magnus' Cathedral, the largest medieval-era ruin in the country. Construction was believed to have started around 1300, but historians are still uncertain if it was ever completed. After the Reformation in 1537, the Diocese of the Faroe Islands was abolished and the cathedral was apparently left to decay. |
