King penguins (III) King penguins (III) / / gallery

Two curious young chicks wander over from their crèche. King penguin chicks are covered with a thick brown down, to help insulate them from the cold. It will eventually moult away once they are mature, after roughly a year. They were originally mis-identified as a completely different type of "hairy" penguin!
