| The red-brick Gediminas Tower on Gediminas Hill was part of a defensive wall, built originally in 1409 but ruined during Russian occupation (1655-61); it was rebuilt in 1930, and now houses a museum. It's a historic symbol of Lithuania, and was depicted on the national currency (before their switch to the euro). |
