| On the tallest hill at the northern end of the Tinganes peninsula in the centre of the Faroese capital, Tórshavn, stands the slate-roofed Dómkirkjan (Tórshavn cathedral). Established in 1788 - making it the second-oldest cathedral church on the islands - it was substantially rebuilt in 1865. It is the seat of the bishop of the autonomous Lutheran Church of the Faroe Islands. |
