King penguins wade across meltwater under the peaks of Breakwind Ridge, along the west of Fortuna Bay. The route of Shackleton's 1916 Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition extended from this ridge, across the beach and over Coronda Peak to nearby Stromness to rescue his shipmates on Elephant Island.
