| A short valley connects the old Stromness whaling station and Coronda peak, seen ahead. It was used by Shackleton in his Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition, crossing over the spine of South Georgia in 1916 to Stromness, to help rescue his shipmates left on Antarctica's Elephant Island. |
