| The al-Alam palace is one of six royal residences of the sultan of Oman, currently Haitham bin Tariq, reigning since 2020. The previous palace on this site dated from around 200 years ago; sultan Qaboos bin Said demolished and rebuilt it in 1972. The rear of the complex backs onto the Gulf of Oman and is guarded by its own historic watchtowers. |
