| The ruins on the Old Town's hill of Nebet Tepe (Turkish for "hill of the guards") once housed an old settlement which became Eumolpias in 1100BC, one of south-eastern Europe's very first cities; massive fortress walls surrounding a temple and a palace were later excavated. |
