Akraberg is the southern tip of the island of Suðuroy, with a homestead and the southernmost of the country's lighthouses. Faroese folktales tell of a colony from Frisia (now in the northern Netherlands) established here from 1040, until the Black Death killed most of them around 1350; survivors passed into legend and became Faroese pirates.
