| The Akraberg lighthouse, 14 metres tall and dating from 1909, and fitted with guy wires to withstand the gales of the Atlantic. Light is beamed at 94 metres above sea-level, and if needed, a fog-horn can sound every 60 seconds; the lighthouse is now automated. During WWII, British soldiers operated the lighthouse and one of the Atlantic's first radar stations here. |
