| Leith was abandoned in 1965 and, like nearby Stromness, was left to the elements. It is also now a prohibited area, with an exclusion zone, however it played a part in the Falklands War, when Argentine marines, posing as scrap merchants, temporarily occupied the site for a month in April 1982. |
